Spijkerman Augustus
Fr Augustus Spijkerman (Sint Nicolaasga, Holland, 1920-Jerusalem 1973) joined the Franciscan order in 1939 and was ordinated priest in 1946. Sent to Rome, he obtained the License in Sacred Theology at the “Antonianum” Pontifical Athenaeum and the License at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Oriental Studies. Professor since 1954 in the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, Jerusalem, fr Augustus was for twenty years curator of the Museum, working in the numismatic field.
This catalogue is based nearly exclusively on coins preserved in the Franciscan Biblical Museum in Jerusalem and will bring a great amount of new material; a rough estimate is that between one fourth and one third of the total has remained unpublished so far
